Isms and Issues workshop - Milwaukee, WI
Hello, Women,
You are invited to attend this thought provoking and heart opening workshop related to power and privilege. We have been taught (often without our own awareness) to hold certain beliefs about "others"....that is, anyone who is different than oneself either by age, sex, sexual orientation, money, gender, physical ability or beauty, religion, or color of skin.
Look around and be honest with yourself about how many "others" are a part of your life, come into your home, and are trusted friends. Perhaps some of our actions create an unintended impact that causes others to hold us at a distance.
The Woman With community is filled with warm, loving and kind women. Perhaps none of us is racist or homophobic at the personal level. Yet there are unfair differences at the institutional and cultural levels that create problems with safety, with access to jobs and housing, and even with being able to marry a beloved partner.
The Isms and Issues workshop will identify how historically, as well as in our actions today, we may say and do things that perpetuate the rifts between people at the group and the personal levels. Much of this is accomplished through the sharing of real life stories by the workshop facilitators, with additional opportunities for participants to share in the circle and in small groups.
The one-day workshop is usually offered at a fee of $150 or so. The Wisconsin Elders have underwritten this particular workshop and if we have sufficient participants, the cost will be only $50. More information is provided below by the Wisconsin Elders.

______________________________
Fellow Humans,
Each one of us has a different background which has had impact on who we are and how we see the world, as well as how the world sees us.
How might you connect differently to someone if you had a better understanding of who they really were? Might you relate differently if you understood what others had as life experiences that molded them into who they are? How might you reflect on your own self if you understood some of the "Isms" which have molded you?
Age, religious background, race, gender, economic status, or upbringing; each one of these things and more are ways in which we see ourselves and the world sees us. And it isn't always through rose colored glasses.
At the Isms and Issues workshop we offer you some new ways to think about who you are and how you relate to the diverse population of souls in the world around us. This workshop will give you some new insight into yourself and your fellow human beings.

You will need to bring with you:

• an open mind and heart
The workshop will be led by Henry Thurman and Rick Broniec and will include a variety of topics with focus on the issues we deal with in every day life around, racism, sexism, age, religion, political persuasion and many other forms of overt and not so overt ways people have of categorizing and forming and holding judgement on themselves and others.
Henry and Rick are part of the Wisconsin MKP Community, both Certified Full Leaders and Leader Trainers in MKP, as well as part of the MKP Multi-Cultural Team and instrumental in developing the I&I workshop. They bring a wealth of experience and varied perspective to this important and relational work. We are very lucky indeed to have them with us in Wisconsin.
This is a one day workshop and will be held on May 8, 2010, at the Milwaukee Warrior Lodge from 7:45AM to 5:30PM. All Warrior Brothers and Women Within, their spouses, partners and significant others, are invited to attend. Scholarships are available for those facing financial challenges in todays economic environment.
Many in our community have taken the I&I Workshop and have talked about the undeniable benefits they received, not only in how they viewed others, but how they viewed themselves, and in some cases how it changed the way they lived their lives.
Please join us for a day of multicultural exploration and fun.
Please respond as soon as you have a chance to check your calendars. We need eight people to make this viable (we currently have two).
